Karen was eager to return to her Vermont roots after spreading her wings as a working nurse in New York City once her 4 kids were born and beginning to sprout up. After being in a sea of unknown faces for many years, she longed for the small communities where people know their neighbors. She had vivid memories of the shared camaraderie among customers that frequented her family’s local Vermont bakery. As the youngest of seven children, It was that sense of connectedness and belonging she wanted to recreate on Shangri-La Farm for both her immediate family, as well as her community. Since returning she has been busy working as a Registered Nurse in the Transfer Center with the University of Vermont Health Network, taking care of her 5 children and elderly mother.

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and immigrating to Manhattan’s lower East side at age 12—without knowing English—was his first exposure to real life change. His quick adjustment into a new culture and environment had given Kit a skill set that proved invaluable. Now with a wife and 5 kids, he once again took the plunge. Leaving New York City to reside on a farm in Vermont was a graceful transition for Kit—with an insatiable desire to create, and live out his fullest potential, he has responded to all possibilities Shangri-La calls for with vigor and tenacity. As a previous Personal Trainer by trade he knows how to maximize all potentials of his subjects. Under Kit’s care Shangri-La has thrived and will continue to soar. There is no doubt this land chose him to be its steward.
